Omegle alternative

An Omegle alternative that is friendlier and text-only

Omegle, the random chat site that started in 2009, shut down in November 2023. Since then, millions of people have been looking for somewhere else to meet new people without creating an account or filling in a profile.

Chat5 keeps the part everyone loved (talking to someone new in seconds, under a nickname) and changes the rest: you chat in rooms of up to 5 people, in text only, with moderation and games to keep the conversation going.

What people liked about Omegle

  • Meeting someone new in a few seconds, with no account and no waiting.
  • A nickname instead of a real identity.
  • The surprise of not knowing who you will talk to next.

All of that is still there on Chat5. What changes is how the conversation is built.

What Chat5 does differently

  • Groups of 5 instead of one-to-one. If one person leaves, the conversation goes on, and nobody is left alone waiting for a reply.
  • Text only. No camera, no microphone, no pictures: nobody judges you on how you look, and you can join from anywhere.
  • Moderation. A report button, a block button, a filter against threats, and automatic removal from a room after 3 reports from different people.
  • 18 and over, with rules everybody can read before joining.
  • Games inside the room (guess who, draw and guess, collaborative story, a colour domino game) so the chat never runs out of things to say.

Start in 30 seconds

  1. Open Chat5 and choose guest mode, or create a free account.
  2. Pick a nickname and the language you want to chat in (13 are available).
  3. You land in a room with up to 4 other people. Say hello or answer the topic of the room.
  4. Not feeling this room? Press Next room and you join another one.

An honest comparison

Chat5 is not a copy of Omegle. There are fewer one-to-one moments and more group dynamics: you can follow a conversation, join in when you want, and quietly leave. If you are looking for video, other services exist. Chat5 is for people who prefer words, and who would like to stop being bored without having to show their face.
